GETTY IMAGES: ESP INTERNAL TOOLS

OLD DESIGN

I like to design internal tools for several reasons. Generally a designer has easier access to the user base, so they can conduct interviews or usability tests easily. The tools can be neglected because B2C work is considered a bigger priority; so the updates can be very transformative and mirror the users needs closely The users get to feel like their voice is heard and that can be very gratifying for them and for the designer.

Enterprise Submission Platform (ESP) was a powerful tool and needed an update.

Enterprise Submission Platform (ESP) allows photographers and videographers to upload their assets to Getty Images, Inc. ESP also

• Screens for many levels of of access

• Distributes assets to customers

• Posts the assets to GettyImages.com

• Allows inspectors to review assets

• Enables editors to modify assets

• Creates templates for assets

PROBLEM: The Editorial Team was deprecating their primary tool (DEWDS) and integrating this functionality in to ESP.  Large numbers of assets from events (e.g. Academy Awards) needed to pass through ESP as quickly as possible; from contributor, to editor to customer. The speed of submission was to stay the same.

MY ROLE: I worked with another designer; we had daily meetings with the "remote" development team and bi-weekly meeting with stakeholders to develop the UI.

SOLUTIONS: Added and modified much of the core functionality of ESP and included a UI using a modified version of Material Design.

RESULTS: The older tool was deprecate putting the team on ESP with an increased speed of several seconds, exceeding expectations.
